Biography Over the past 10 years Janie has taken over 25 workshops. Her Instructors include: Nita Leland, Johnathon Talbot, Isabelle Hunt, Joan Federoshyn. Most recently her instructors have been Jeremy Mayne, Dianna Ponting and Brian Atyeo. Exhibitions She has participated in many group shows: The Bow West Artists annual show Caylx, a biannual art exhibition in Calgary Federation of Canadian Artists shows in Calgary and Vancouver. Recent Awards SFCA Choice Award, Mad About Art, November 2008 Second Place Award, Absolutely Art, April 2008 Sponsor’s Choice Award, Absolutely Art, April 2007 Artist Statement Janie works primarily in mixed media with fluid acrylics. The fluid acrylics are often used in a watercolour manner on a textured surface. She uses gel medium, collage, pastel, and transfers in her mixed media approach to achieve a feeling of depth and an intriguing surface quality. Her recent work uses this surface quality to enhance her subject matter. “My focus has been to emphasize on the beauty of nature. I do this by abstracting my composition somewhat, zooming in on the subject or painting it slightly out of context. In doing this I hope to entice the viewer to feel involved with the piece.” – Janie Lockwood |
